From the Desert to the Stars

The 2017 Row by Row Experience theme is Row by Row is On The Go, and our Row is headed to space.  “From the Desert to the Stars” is Marsha’s design, and it  gives a tip of the hat to White Sands Missile Range and NASA.  The green chile cowboy’s got his lasso around a NASA rocket, and he’s in for the ride of his life!

Visitors to New Mexico may not realize the important role that White Sands Missile Range plays with NASA.  The Johnson Space Center has a testing facility here,  and  White Sands is an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle.  The Space Shuttle Columbia landed here in 1982, when it was diverted from Edwards AFB due to bad runway conditions.

At Holloman Air Force Base,  the High Speed Test Track saw brave men like Col. John Stapp, USAF take part in human endurance testing, studying the effects of acceleration and deceleration on human beings, important knowledge for pilots and astronauts alike!

The Row by Row Experience takes place June 21st through September 5th. Patterns are free, kits are available for purchase at participating shops. This year’s Experience has two new features: Row by Row Junior, for kids from 6-14, with four patterns designed for young quilters; and The 9th Row, proceeds from which will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and local children’s charities.
